Lace is a delicate fabric that is usually layered over a thicker fabric since it is a type of mesh you can see through. Wedding dresses and evening gowns as well as lingerie are commonly made out of lace. Fine lace is also used to make tops. If you would like to make a lace top, get your sewing machine ready and gather together a few other items you will need.
Instructions
1
Measure the widest point on your chest using your tape measure, add 2 inches to the number and write down the measurement. If your waist is wider than your chest, measure your waist and add 2 inches. Then measure from under your arm, down to your hipbone, add 1 inch to the figure and write down the measurement.
2
Lay the lace fabric on a table and cut out a rectangular piece the size of the measurements you took.
3
Lay the satin fabric on the table, right side up, and lay the lace piece you just cut out, right side up, on top of it. Pin the two pieces of fabric together and cut the satin along the edges of the lace.
4
Sew the satin and lace together, stitching ¼ inch from the edge, until your last stitch meets your first.
5
Fold the rectangular piece in half, with the lace side face to face and the edges flush. Pin 1 ½ inch in from the edge.
6
Sew ½ inch from the edge to create a tube of fabric.
7
Turn the tube of fabric to the right side, fold ½ inch of the edge of the fabric in towards the wrong side and stitch ¼ inch in from the edge, until your last stitch meets your first stitch.
8
Fold ½ inch of the other edge of the fabric in towards the wrong side and stitch ¼ inch in from the edge.
9
Using your bra as a guide, measure one of the bra straps and add 3 inches to the measurement.
10
Cut two pieces of satin ribbon the length of your measurement.
11
Hook the bra closed and pin the satin ribbons to the back of the tube of fabric, positioning each ribbon where the bra straps are positioned on the back of the bra and pinning each satin ribbon to the top so the ribbon is on the inside and the pin is on the outside.
12
Put the bra on and slip the tube of fabric over your head.
13
Bring both satin ribbons over your shoulders and pin each one to the front of the fabric where the bra straps are positioned.
14
Remove the top and stitch all four ends of the ribbons to the top.more:Patchwork Bandage Dress
