Look for a four-station back enclosure on the bra. This will ensure that the bra feels comfortable and will not become undone easily.
Wear a maternity cheap lingerie with comfortable straps. Straps should be wide and be cushioned well in order to not dig into your shoulders.
Select a bra that you can nurse in as well. Most maternity bras have snaps that unhook that allow you to feed your baby without unhooking the bra.
Keep the maternity bra on often. You will need the support during the duration of your pregnancy and if you choose to breastfeed.
Place the bra shoulder straps over your shoulders. Place your thumb on the left-most bracket and connect the hook on the left side of the back strap to that bracket on the right side of the back strap. Test the fit by turning your torso from right to left. Decrease the band size on your bra by unclasping the hook and attaching it to the next bracket over, just to the right of the first bracket. Test the fit again. Continue to move the clasp to the right, one hook at a time until you have a comfortable fit that's snug but not too tight.
Take off the bra and get out a fabric tape measure. Wrap it around your back and shoulder blades, just beneath your armpits and beneath your breasts in the front. Write down your chest measurement in inches on a piece of paper. Look at the tag on your bra to see if the number matches your measurement. Buy a new, smaller bra if your measurement is two or more inches lower than the number on your current bra.
Add four inches if the number is even and add five inches if the number is odd. This is your band-size measurement.
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your breast. This is typically across the nipples. While taking the measurement, stand straight with your arms hanging down by your side. Do not pull the tape tight or apply any pressure to the breasts. Once again, round any fractions to the nearest inch. This is your cup measurement.
Subtract your band-size measurement from your cup measurement. Each inch of difference is equal to one cup size. As an example, one inch would equal a cup size of A and four inches would equal a cup size of D.
Pair your band-size measurement and your cup size letter to obtain your accurate bra size. If your band-size measurement was 36, for example, and your cup letter was C, your bra size would be 36C.
